Sibley’s new, dramatically expanded Emergency Department (ED) opened September 9, with each innovative detail designed to promote speed and an unparalleled experience. “We know patients want to get in, be seen and get out quickly,” notes Jerry Price, senior vice president of real estate and construction. “More space, additional rooms, increased staff and streamlined processes reflect our total commitment to providing care faster and more efficiently than ever before,” says Jennifer Abele, M.D., ED medical director.
For years, Sibley ED wait times have been among the nation’s shortest, earning patient satisfaction ratings in the 99th percentile. “That’s great, but we always want to push the envelope, improve and bring new ways to maximize speed and efficiency to our community,” says Therese Pearrell, ED nurse manager.
Sibley physicians and nurses on the front lines of ED operation were directly involved with decisions about how the new department is designed, equipped and organized. “It’s been a very hands-on process,” notes Edie Fowlkes, R.N. “I think we know where every electrical outlet will be.”
